Rat Scabies, a member of the classic punk band The Damned
Story
Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea of her secret identity. Helen’s employer, caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to the dangerous London underworld, calls Sam to protect her. Plays Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam buys his weapons. Starring Graham Norton and more: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jalen Ngonda (2024).
Meet Helen Dawson (Keira Knightley), an ordinary mother of two, married to a politician, right?
Err, she was actually a spy before she met a politician, passing the country’s secrets to a spy organization called the Black Doves, who for years sold them to the highest bidder. Unfortunately for Helen’s boss, Helen gets involved in an affair, and when Helen’s new lover is killed, she goes on a vegetarian mission to find his killer. Helen goes on the mission and soon discovers that her lover’s murder may be connected to the death of the Chinese ambassador. She also gets involved in a lot of shooting (which reminded me of Shoot ’em Up and John Wick), personal fights (which showed that she is definitely not a damsel in distress), and explosive lucky escapes (which keep you on the edge of your seat).
It was these great action scenes that kept me interested throughout the series
And I didn’t even get tired of the flashback scenes showing Helen’s first foray into espionage, because those scenes were also well-shot. I also enjoyed the witty one-liners that Helen and her spy partner Sam (Ben Whishaw) delivered very well. For example, after an explosive lucky escape, Helen dislocates her shoulder and has to jump back into place by slamming her hand into a wall. Then Sam says, “That was really impressive.” Helen says, “You should have seen me push two human beings out of me in the same afternoon.” However, while I was never bored and definitely didn’t feel like the show was overly drawn out and would have been better than a long movie, I think the final episode could have been about 10-20 minutes shorter.
Towards the end of the series, I thought it was too convoluted
I understand they were trying to set up the final episode for Season 2, but I still think they could have done it because they shortened the series quite a bit. I also think that if they did a second season, Helen’s husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan) would have to be introduced as a stronger character, as Helen has to sneak around to investigate the murder of her lover throughout the series, but even though Wallace becomes suspicious, he never talks to her about her secret by the end of the series. Despite these minor issues, I will definitely watch the second season, I would happily watch the show again, and I will buy it on DVD.
